New Review from Jazz Magazine in France
Karen’s newest album was just reviewed in France’s Jazz Magazine:
“Karen Marguth is one of those talented American musicians whose notoriety has not crossed the Atlantic. Born in Minneapolis but settled in California for a long time, the singer is also a teacher and engages in various activities around music. She has recorded several albums acclaimed by American critics (especially Down Beat and Jazz Times magazines) and this, your favorite magazine, has also echoed that critical acclaim of her work.
If she has sometimes called on well-known soloists such as saxophonist Richie Cole, Karen Marguth has remained faithful to a core of musicians including bassist Kevin Hill (with whom she made a fine duet album), mandolinist Eva Scow, guitarist Mike Taylor and drummer Nathan Guzman, who can be found here, among others coming to join the party over the sessions of this album recorded over ten years. If in the past she has greatly devoted herself to standards and other classics (including an album dedicated to Carroll Coates) which still find their place on "Until," she enriches her repertoire with judiciously chosen pieces by Sting, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon. showing that her voice full of naturalness and her sense of interpretation can adapt to a wide range of songs, as long as they are of good quality.
A successful new page written by this singer, as brilliant as she is inconspicuous.”
